The new international airport at Kastelli is moving toward a 2028 opening. In January 2026, the Greek government reported construction at 67% and confirmed 2028 as the operating target.
The official airport company says test flights are expected to start in 2027. It also lists a 93,000 m² main terminal, a 3.2 km runway and design capacity of more than 15 million passengers a year.
For car-rental customers, nothing changes yet: the current Heraklion Airport remains the correct pickup point until Kastelli is operational. Comfy will publish the exact new-airport meeting point as soon as it is officially confirmed.
