Kastelli Airport Night Arrivals: Car Pickup and Where to Stay First

Planning update (October 2026): Kastelli's new Heraklion airport is under construction; the current target is November 2028. The airport is not yet available for flights or Comfy car collection. Road access, journey times and pickup arrangements may change before opening.

A late flight often makes one small detail feel very big: how do you get from the terminal to your accommodation without hunting for a closed rental desk? This future-arrival checklist is designed for passengers planning ahead for the new Kastelli Airport.

Important: there are no passenger arrivals to the new Kastelli Airport yet, and Comfy has not published a confirmed P5 collection point or a dedicated 24-hour pickup procedure there. The company will publish collection details when its Kastelli location becomes available. Check the official Comfy Kastelli guide rather than relying on unverified parking-lot instructions.

Will 24-hour car pickup be available?

Illustrative night-time rental-car scene at Heraklion Airport. This is not the future Kastelli Airport; Kastelli pickup facilities and hours are not yet confirmed.

It may be an important feature for travellers, but airport-specific opening hours, meeting points, shuttle options and key collection must be confirmed before you book. General 24/7 assistance is not the same thing as guaranteed middle-of-the-night collection at a future airport.

Before booking, ask the supplier to confirm four things in writing: whether the selected arrival time is supported, where the representative will meet you, what happens if your flight is delayed, and whether any late-collection charge applies.

Where might you spend your first night?

Kastelli Pediada

The town of Kastelli is a natural area to investigate for a quieter overnight stay near the construction site. Search for accommodation with late check-in and make sure the property is reachable at your arrival time. Avoid assuming that every guesthouse has a staffed reception after midnight.

Arkalochori

Arkalochori is another useful area to consider. It has shops and everyday services, but the availability of restaurants, pharmacies and overnight accommodation varies. Verify opening times directly, especially outside the summer season.

Heraklion or a north-coast resort

If your main destination is Heraklion, Hersonissos or Malia, it may be easier to continue directly there instead of changing accommodation the next morning. Compare the full journey rather than only the distance to the nearest village.

Fuel and late-night driving

Do not plan around an unverified claim that a specific petrol station near the new airport is open 24 hours. Save confirmed fuel stations along your actual route once the road network is operational. Comfy's published policy asks for the vehicle to be returned with the same fuel level as on delivery, unless a different arrangement is agreed in writing.

At night, rural roads can be poorly lit and slower than expected. Allow a safety margin, keep a charged phone and consider a simple, direct first-night drive.

Night-arrival checklist

  • Confirm flight details, landing time and the actual operating airport.
  • Confirm collection instructions and any after-hours charges in writing.
  • Choose accommodation with a verified late check-in option.
  • Save navigation and contact information before landing.
  • Check the fuel policy and insurance terms on your specific booking.

Until Kastelli opens, Heraklion's existing airport remains the practical arrival point for the Heraklion region. Search Comfy's currently available rental locations if you are travelling before the changeover.
